Green Lodging

In order to promote the conservation and protection of natural resources, in 2004 the Florida Department of Environmental Protection established the Florida Green Lodging Program. This voluntary initiative designates and recognizes lodging facilities that make a commitment to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources. The program’s environmental guidelines allow the hospitality industry to evaluate its operations, set goals and take specific actions to continuously improve environmental performance.

Although this initiative is open to all lodging facilities, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection must sign off on all properties desiring to become a member of the Florida Green Lodging Program by setting specific requirements the lodging facility must meet.

Each facility must organize their own “Green Team” for the property and implement a number of efforts and commitments to environmental solutions. These commitments include, but are not limited to, water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and clean air practices. Sheraton Sand Key’s “Green Team” is made up of employees from each department who will not only self-assess and monitor the property’s current environmental practices, but will also plan for future improvements.

Sheraton Sand Key has always had certain practices that promote environmental awareness. To take this one step further, we have increased the number of green alternatives that we can provide to guests who are looking for a Green Resort experience! This is done in an effort to make you, the guest, more aware of our practices, as well as invite you to join the program. Our linen-reuse program gives you the option to have your linens changed less often, allowing us to conserve water and our in-room recycling program ensures papers, plastic bottles and newspapers will be sent to recycling plants!

In 2008, Sheraton Sand Key Resort became the 257th hotel in the state to be welcomed into the program and we are continually pursuing ways to improve our environmental awareness.

“The Florida Green Lodging Program provides us with the vehicle to make our commitment a reality and we enthusiastically embrace our leadership role as a partner in this process.”
