EXECUTIVE CHEF AND RESTAURANT BOTH WINNERS FOR 2003
CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla. - (Jan. 16, 2004) - The Sheraton Sand Key Resort is the proud home of two winners this year, as Chef John Harris and Rusty's Bistro each recently received recognition for culinary greatness in 2003.
Chef Harris, executive chef for the Sheraton Sand Key Resort of Clearwater Beach, was recently named "Chef of the Year" by the Suncoast Cooks and Chefs Association, the local chapter of the American Culinary Federation. With 75 years of leadership in the culinary industry, the American Culinary Federation is the largest and most esteemed chefs' organization in America. Chef Harris was chosen from a pool of the area's most talented chefs from a variety of local establishments.
To add frosting to the cake, Rusty's Bistro, also located at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, was listed once again as one of the area's "Best Restaurants" by Chris Sherman, food critic for the St. Petersburg Times. Rusty's Bistro was named "best restaurant hiding in plain sight" for 2003, while past titles have included "best food tourists eat and you don't" and "best reason for locals to eat in a hotel."
Chef Harris has become an authority on Floribbean (a combination of Floridian and Caribbean) cuisine, creating bold flavors and creative dishes for the hotel's restaurants, particularly Rusty's Bistro, for more than 10 years. In 2003, he was inducted into The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a prestigious international culinary society. Membership in the Chaîne is extended to professionals by invitation only and is based on reputation.
The Sheraton Sand Key Resort is nestled on 10 acres of exclusive beach adjacent to the renowned Sand Key Park and Preserve. The renovated resort offers 390 gulf and bay view rooms, a health club, tennis courts and beach and poolside recreation, in addition to the award-winning dining at Rusty's Bistro, courtesy of Chef John Harris.
