Take half a day to explore some the fantastic areas located just outside of Clearwater Beach. The Tampa Bay area offers great options, many a mere 10-15 miles from the Sheraton Sand Key Resort.

 

Dunedin

With more than 100 privately owned shops, restaurants, bars and pubs, boutiques, art galleries, antique stores, and more, this quaint city of 35,000 has the charm of a small town and the amenities of other larger city neighbors.

Dunedin Brewery (30 mins.)

Fermenting since 1996 and still going strong, Dunedin Brewery handcrafts all of their ales for your enjoyment from their Piper's Pale Ale to their Apricot Wheat. Located on the west coast of Florida in the Scottish heritage town of Dunedin, Florida brewers work hard to produce quality ales for thirsty friends all over Florida. With 9 ales brewed year round and 5 or more seasonal offerings throughout the year there is sure to be an ale to fit your taste!

Honeymoon Island (45 mins.)

The pioneers called it Hog Island, but it became Honeymoon Isle in 1939 when a New York developer built 50 palm - thatched bungalows for honeymooners. The park boasts several nature trails and bird observation areas. Visitors can swim, fish, and snorkel in the warm waters of the Gulf or picnic while they enjoy the beautiful scenery. Shelling is particularly good here, as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of seashells on the shore. Showers are available and the park's concession has a gift shop and snack bar.

Caladesi Island (45 mins.)

One of the few completely natural islands along Florida's Gulf Coast, Caladesi's white sand shores have been rated as the nation's #1 best beach. Accessible only by boat or ferry, beach lovers can enjoy swimming, sunbathing, and beachcombing. Saltwater anglers can fish from their boats or throw a line out into the surf. Nature enthusiasts watch wildlife while hiking the three mile nature trail through the island's interior or paddling a three mile kayak trail through the mangroves and bay. Picnic tables and shelters are located near the beach; picnic pavilions can be reserved for a fee. The park has a marina with electric and water hookups for boaters. The park also has a snack bar and gift shop.

 

Saint Petersburg

Rich with history, this is the center of cultural education in the Tampa Bay Area. From the Holocaust Museum to Dali's great artworks, there is education and history around every corner. Aside from history you'll find great shopping, pristine beaches and local attractions the whole family will love.

Dali Museum (30 mins.)

The Dali Museum is the flagship of cultural tourism on the West Coast of Florida and welcomes over 200,000 visitors each year from around the world. Two film series, lectures and concerts supplement the themes of the exhibitions. The Museum Store, with books and educational material as top sellers, extends the exhibition experience. A series of small formal exhibition catalogs is published to accompany the four new exhibitions mounted each year.

Museum of Fine Arts (30 mins.)

The Museum opened to the public in 1965 with the purpose of preserving and protecting works of art and to offer instruction and opportunities for aesthetic enjoyment of art. The Museum of Fine Arts has the only comprehensive art collection on the Florida West Coast extending from antiquity to the present.

 

Holocaust Museum (30 mins.)

The Florida Holocaust Museum honors the memory of millions of innocent men, women, and children who suffered or died in the Holocaust. The Museum is dedicated to teaching members of all races and cultures to recognize the inherent worth and dignity of human life in order to prevent future genocides.

Tarpon Springs (45 mins.)

Take a trip to the Greek Islands without traveling half-way around the world. Originally inhabited by Greek sponge divers in the early 1900s, this town still has the intimate feel and cuisine of an authentic Greek village with Florida's oldest running tourist attraction.

 

John's Pass (15 mins.)

This quaint turn-of-the-century fishing village is Pinellas County's #1 tourist attraction. Over one hundred merchants inhabit the Village with unique retail shopping, a variety of restaurants, the local fishing fleet, cruise lines, boat rentals, parasailing and jet skiing. Plenty of parking! The beach is a short stroll away.
