Our Environmental Commitment
When you choose the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, you’re also choosing to do a little bit extra for the environment.
Green Lodging Florida
In 2008, our resort became the 257th hotel to be welcomed into Florida Green Lodging Program. This voluntary program designates and recognizes lodging facilities that make a commitment to conserve and protect Florida’s natural resources. The program’s environmental guidelines allow the hospitality industry to evaluate its operations, set goals and take specific actions to continuously improve environmental performance.
In order to become a member of the Florida Green Lodging Program, Sheraton Sand Key Resort had to meet specific requirements set by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. We are proud to have met the challenge and we enthusiastically look for even more ways to provide guests with a Green Resort experience! To that end, we have increased green alternatives for guests, enabling them to opt into such environmentally friendly activities as:
- Choosing to have linens changed less often to conserve water
- Participating in our in-room recycling of papers, plastic bottles and newspapers
- Making suggestions and comments on how we can be even greener
Clean the World
In addition, we ourselves are committed to protecting Florida’s natural resources through water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction and clean air practices.
In 2014, soap we collected resulted in 2,785 bars for distribution to needy children and families around the world. This brings our lifetime total since we joined this program to 53,294 bars. We have also collected 7,077 lbs. of bottled soaps, shampoos and conditioners to be used in hygiene kits for homeless and disaster relief in the US. Together, these initiatives have reduced landfill waste by a total of 19,429 lbs!
